Do you ever have days when you feel far from God? Where you just can’t seem to make that close connection with Him that you love? Sometimes we are in the midst of a battle and we can’t understand everything that is happening around us and we cry out “where are you God?” Sometimes, it’s not that we are in a battle, sometimes it’s just that life is busy and maybe we haven’t been able to spend as much time with Him as we like and so it feels harder to make that deep connection in the moments that we do have with Him and our soul cries out “where are you God, I can’t feel you”

Recently I was having one of those “where are you God, I can’t feel you” kind-of-days.  Life has been so busy and I feel like I haven’t been able to spend as much time with Him and make that deep connection that I love so dearly. My heart cried out “where are you God? I can’t feel you” and to be honest I also complained to Him “God why do I always have to seek You? – it is so hard. Why don’t you pursue me when I’m feeling like this?” I have asked this of God a few times when I have felt frustrated and despondent about my seeming inability to connect with Him.

The truth is He does pursue me. He does make Himself real to me. He does it in His time and His way. I actually believe that He even sometimes goes a little quiet just to draw us closer to Himself; to cause us to hunger after Him and seek Him more deeply.

The secret I have found is to keep coming back to Him in meditation every single day – especially the days when you feel like you can’t find Him. That day was one of (if not the only) time I have left my meditation room feeling a bit despondent because I felt like I had not connected deeply with Him.

But the next morning I came to Him again. I came to seek Him, to find Him, to connect with Him, to spend time with Him and this time I heard His beautiful sweet whisper in my ear almost immediately.

He was listening – He is an amazing faithful God! He knew what my heart needed. He dropped the words from Acts 17:27 into my heart “God did this so that they would seek Him and perhaps reach out for Him and find Him, though He is not far from any one of us

It was just what I needed to hear and be reminded of. He is not far from me no matter how I feel, He is close by. My heart lifted and I began to pray “Thank you Lord you are not far from me. You are as close as the day I feel most deeply connected to You. You are with me, You are for me, You are in me, You are close to me.

Sometimes the anointing may not be as strong but you are still with me, in me and as close to me as you always are. You never leave me.

In You I live and move and have my being. Help me to keep my focus on You. The anointing comes when I am focussed on You”.

I love what Benson’s commentary says about this scripture – “feeling is the lowest and grossest of all our senses” This is so true. Sometimes we “feel” far from God but the truth is He is never far from any one of us.

It was such a beautiful reminder for me that we must not live by our feelings. 2 Corinthians 5:7 says “We live by faith, not by sight” and not by how we feel.

And because faith began to rise in my heart as I meditated on the truth that “He is not far from anyone of us” I was able to make that beautiful deep re-connection with His beautiful Spirit.

I pray that if you are feeling far from God today – if you have cried out “where are you God, I can’t feel you” or if you feel like it’s been too long since you’ve made that deep connection with your heart to Him then begin to meditate on this truth – He is not far from you. He is near to you. He is with you, He is for you and He is in you.

Even right now where you are, begin to think of those words – close your eyes for a moment and meditate on the words “He is not far from me” and you will feel Him; you will begin to sense how close He really is. You will feel your heart drawing near to Him and His heart drawing near to you.

God bless and praying peace and blessing for you as you meditate on Him this week!
