Sometimes life takes us by surprise and things happen that we are not expecting and have the potential to throw us out of the peace zone.

I have had such a week. One of my children unexpectedly fell very ill and spent 4 days in the hospital this week. Anyone who has had a sick child knows what a difficult and stressful time this can be.

So I am writing to let you know that this weeks Stillness Tips will be delayed until next week but I wanted to share with you a special moment that happened to me in the middle of all the chaos this week.

My son had been very sick for a day and a night at home and when we realized he was not getting any better and was in fact getting much worse and was unable to hold down any food or water, we took him to the hospital late one night.

The next 24 hours were a series of tests to try and find the problem, trying to stabilize him, no sleep and looking after a very ill child.

After about 2 days of no sleep and caring for a very sick child I was feeling exhausted and a bit teary.

Eventually, he was given medication and fluids to re-hydrate him and my son finally fell asleep and I found I had a few moments to myself.

In the stillness of those few moments I felt the need to spend some time with God. I decided to use those few moments to “be still” and take my mind off the situation and find peace in looking to God.

I sat in the stillness, closed my eyes and shifted my thoughts and focus to God. I then pulled out my Bible that I had thrown in my bag on the way to the hospital and I flicked it open. It fell open to the exact page shown in the picture above. I couldn’t believe my eyes – of all the places my Bible could have opened to – it opened to this page, where right in the middle, in big letters it said

“Jesus, the Healer”

A few tears fell from my eyes as I knew that this was not a co-incidence. I felt God’s peace come over me and I knew this was His way of speaking to me in my time of need. This was His way of telling me “I am here, I am with you; everything is going to be ok”.

These were the very words I needed to hear in the moment that I most needed to hear them and I would have missed it if I had not taken a moment to “be still”. In that moment, I felt peace, comfort and strength from those words. In that moment He restored my weary soul.

I wanted to share this with you in case you are in a situation that is causing you stress and difficulty right now. Take a moment to “be still” because He IS with you and He IS speaking words of hope, strength, peace and comfort to you. And He will find a way to get those words to you if you take a moment to “be still” and look to Him.

My son is home now feeling much better and I thank God for His peace that carried us through this difficult time.

I pray that you find peace in your circumstances this week. He is always with us – He never leaves us or forsakes us.

I thought I would also share two of the songs that I have been playing this week in my meditation time which really helped me to find peace and strength in a difficult situation. I hope you find them helpful too. Here are the links:

“O Come to the Altar” by Elevation Worship from the “Here as In Heaven” album
“Jesus Lover of My Soul” by Darlene Zschech from the “Shout to the Lord” album

God bless – and I pray that you have a blessed and peace-filled week!
